Elder Team

Each Elder at DBC cares deeply for you. As instructed in scripture, they are devoted to the Body of Believers here and are committed to leadership and spiritual oversight to everyone who attends Derwood Bible Church. Please note that our pastors (Colin and Mike) also serve on the elder team, their bios are on the staff page.

When you need to talk to an elder, please don't hesitate to call or ask them to visit personally with you. They count it a blessing to answer any questions you may have about spiritual or church-related matters or to counsel you on personal issues or burdens you may have.

We have designated an Elder to shepherd different areas of the DBC flock. If you do not know how to reach your Elder, contact the church office.

Geoff Frink

Geoff grew up in Maryland and came to know Christ during his college years. He became very involved in a campus ministry which helped him to study the bible, share his faith and grow in his relationship with Christ. Geoff has been involved in a variety of church ministries over the years including being a care group leader, a children’s ministry volunteer and a leader in middle school ministry. At Derwood, he has taught adult education classes, been a leader of a homeless shelter ministry, leads a life group and serves in Kidzone. Geoff is a project manager, currently working as a contractor at the Food and Drug Administration. God has richly blessed Geoff with his wonderful wife Connie and three adult children. You might find Geoff at one of the local disc golf courses on a Saturday morning.

Jeremy Mayhew

Jeremy was born in Georgia and raised in a rural community in the panhandle of Texas. He grew up an agnostic humanist but encountered the good news of God’s kingdom while he was in college. He was deeply changed by the Holy Spirit and became a disciple of Jesus Christ.

Jeremy met his wife Mindy while attending Texas A&M University (a very good story involving physics, cow tipping, and pizza...). Together they have seven children: Nate, Lela, Justin, C.J., Brianna, Karis, and Zach. They have “custom schooled” their kids, and each have been a part of Chieftain Christian Academy and Chieftain Institute. The Mayhews have resided in Maryland for the last 20 years. Jeremy is a software craftsman by trade and works on the leadership team of a local defense contracting company. At DBC Jeremy has been involved in middle school youth ministry (where his sense of humor is most appreciated) and men’s ministry. He highly values discipleship, hospitality, enchiladas, a well-placed Princess Bride quote, and any opportunity to combine all of them.

Jeremy enjoys reading (science fiction, apocalyptic, and fantasy), movies, and basically any story well told. He also referees for their community swim team, holds the rope for his daughter’s horses, fiddles with electronics, and loves a good thunderstorm. If he had more time on his hands, he would read more, nap more, draw more, and learn to play the mandolin, so he is sure that eternity is going to be fun.

Dale Musser

Dale was born and raised on a farm in Lancaster County, PA. While attending a Jack Van Impe Crusade at his home church, he realized his need for a Savior and became a Christian as a preteen. After taking a job in Virginia, he met his wife Brenda at a local Bible church. They have always lived in Maryland, and in 1999 moved to Montgomery County where they found Derwood Bible thru the AWANA website. They have been blessed with four children and the youngest is in college. Dale works in the information technology field. He also has served 15 years as an AWANA leader and stills serves as a Sunday School teacher in KIDZONE.

Colin Seager

Colin was born and raised in the DC area. His vision for DBC is that we strive together for the faith of the Gospel, as Paul mentioned to the Philippians.  Striving together means that we are fully engaged in serving the Lord and being used by Him. What is it we're striving for? The faith of the Gospel! The Gospel impacts every aspect of our lives, and we are to take the Good News of Jesus Christ to those around us: our families, our neighborhoods, and our world. We are not to do this by ourselves, but as a unified body of believers. We are a church family; we need to encourage, support, challenge, and comfort one another in all that we do.

Colin met his wife, Christine, while attending George Mason University, where he earned his B.A. in Russian Studies and Masters Degree in Education. Colin also earned his Doctor in Ministry degree at Liberty Theological Seminary (counseling emphasis), where he previously earned his Master of Arts in Religion Degree and Master of Divinity Degree (preaching). Colin has previously served as a school teacher in Russia, a Children's Pastor, and on the staff of Central Union Mission. The Seager's six children are Ashleigh, Katie, Michael, Alyssa, Matthew, and Kaylee - the older four are now young adults and they are delighted to have Adam as their new son-in-law. Colin always loves a good game of hoops or ping-pong, loves to grill and will always be a fan of the Burgundy and Gold!

Mike Speer

Mike was a junior in high school and just moved to Maryland when he was invited on a youth group trip to Kings Dominion. He initially questioned whether anyone his age really believed in God, but it was his friends' authentic faith that led Mike to search for truth. In 1990 Mike responded to the gospel and accepted Jesus' gift of eternal life at a Christian rock concert when he was 17 years old.  He continued to grow in his faith through personal time with the Lord, discussing theology with his friends and mentors, and attending church with his family.

Mike graduated from the University of Maryland and met his wife, Anna, at a singles Bible study here at DBC. He enjoys studying and teaching God's Word, playing music, and investing his life in kids, students, and other leaders with the same passion.

Mike earned his Master of Divinity Degree from Liberty Theological Seminary in Dec. 2014. Mike and Anna are proud adoptive parents to their two children, Jake and Emily.

Vinnie Tallman

Vinnie grew up in Hornell, NY, with his parents and brother, former DBC member John. Vinnie's dad was born again in 1975, and the family began regularly attending church.  Vinnie was saved as a teenager; however, it was not until after college, while his dad battled terminal lung cancer, that he understood that's it's not enough to believe in God. A Christian must believe God and be conformed to Jesus's teaching. In recent years, Vinnie has pursued a deeper understanding of Reformed Theology and how God's elect are saved by grace through faith and not by man's works. He believes that we are called to "Love the Lord your God  with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength" (Mark 12:30).

Vinnie studied Political Science at Hartwick College and then received his Master's in Public and International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh, where he met his wife, Debbie. The couple moved to Maryland in 1992. They have been attending DBC since July 2001. Currently, Vinnie is President of PASS - a PAC management consultant firm in Reston, Virginia. The Tallmans have three adult daughters, Maggie, Emmie, and Addie, whom they homeschooled with the help of Chieftain Christian Academy.  In addition, Vinnie has served DBC as a deacon for several years. Debbie teaches 3's Sunday School, is part of the Care & Comfort ministry, and is the director of Chieftain Institute.

Sam Vasa

Sam has spent 33 years of his life in the Washington DC metropolitan area and currently resides in Olney, MD. He is a techie by nature working in a television broadcasting media company as an executive. Sam’s calling to serve God and His church has been centered on facilitating and teaching adult fellowship and small care/life groups. Prior to becoming an elder at DBC, Sam served as a deacon at the DBC. He also served as a deacon chair, church council member, and school board vice-chair prior to attending DBC.

Sam is married to his wonderful wife Latha for 33 years and blessed with two sons. The Lord God has manifested to Sam through His Word the call of proclaiming the Good News. Sam has been actively sharing the Gospel for several years to his co-workers, friends and families. No matter what our background is or what language we speak or what color we belong to, we have one common goal that is to serve the living God through His Son Lord Jesus Christ. With serving in mind, I look forward to a continued discipleship focus and any surprises that the Lord may delegate me to do.
