Deacon Team

Aaron Adams

Aaron grew up in a Christian family but did not understand the meaning of faith or being a Christian until he was a teenager. At the age of 14, Aaron went on a mission trip to Scotland mainly because his sisters went on similar mission trips the year before. During this trip to Scotland, a friend asked Aaron why he decided to go on this trip. Aaron did not know how to respond, as he did not know his motivation either. Pondering about this question, Aaron decided to spend time reading and digging into God’s words. Gradually, Aaron came to the realization that he needed to put his trust in God and that he needed to own his faith. Through this mission trip, God opened Aaron’s eyes and showed Aaron His will and purpose for this trip — it was to bring Aaron to faith, strengthen his faith, encourage the church there, and minister to those he encountered in Scotland. Since then, Aaron went on mission trips to Hungary, Ghana, and Namibia to live out God’s calling to serve and to learn more about God. During his time in Namibia, Aaron helped start an orphanage of fifty children near Katima Mulilo, which inspired Aaron to serve children and teach them about God’s words (despite language barriers). Throughout Aaron’s teen years, he was involved in children’s ministry at his church as well as a mime/drama group that preformed Bible stories at different churches. In his twenties, Aaron started volunteering for the youth group and basketball ministry at his church and found great joy sharing life with people he got to know and growing with them in faith. Aaron met Charlene in the summer of 2017, and they got married the following year. They moved to Rockville, MD from Arlington, VA in December of 2018 and started looking for a church in their new area. While driving out of the Shady Grove metro station after work each evening, Charlene had been noticing the beautiful cross shining at the window of Derwood Bible Church. They knew they needed to check it out. Since their first visit to DBC in January of 2019, they knew that we found their church home, and have loved growing their faith and family at DBC. Aaron has been leading DBC’s basketball ministry on Sunday nights, actively involving in a weekly discipleship group, and serving as a leader at AWANA, men’s ministry team, and security team.

Aaron and Charlene have four children, AJ, Daisy, and Andrew, and Matthew.
