Jesus Christ, in a Class of His Own

I cannot think of a more meaningful and worthy topic for my inaugural blog entry than the excellencies of Jesus Christ.  Recently one of our Men’s Bible Studies wrapped up a two year study of Hebrews, and, I am currently preaching through Revelation.  In very different yet equally compelling ways, both present the reader with an unavoidable truth that Jesus Christ is in a class of His own.

The Hebrew prophets and early apostles are worthy of respect, but Jesus receives worship.  God says He alone is to be worshiped; yet He declared of Jesus, “Let all God’s angels worship Him.”  (Heb. 1:12, NIV)  As well, Jesus is openly worshiped by an innumerable cast made up of every created being:  “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!”  (Rev. 5:13, NIV)

Correctly understanding God’s truth in large part rests on understanding and embracing who Jesus is.  Get it wrong on Jesus, and you’re building your house on a crooked foundation.  We preach Jesus as Lord and Savior; the Creator who reigns and is the only One to offer forgiveness of sins and hope for the future.   Weigh carefully your activity today, for our mandate is clear:  “And whatever you do in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”  Col. 3:17 (NIV)
